News > Local Search Optimization
Local search optimization (LSO) uses more data at locations where more data is available, without specifying multiple estimation passes.
- Inspect the variance of estimates: a block-by-block metric, analogous to other performance metrics such as QKNA, predicts the smoothness of each block estimate.
- Simplify estimation: define only a few estimators when using LSO, then check performance metrics and inspect the auto-selected best scenario. In the example shown, the best scenario is within 0.5% of the target block variance.
- Make quick comparisons: compare with your preferred approach. In the example, a traditional strategy using five composites everywhere underperforms LSO on every metric.
- Compare distributions: the EstCalibrator tool compares distributions and grade-tonnage curves for all scenarios.
