News > Outlier Management: Global and Local Capping
RMSP supports both conventional and local approaches to outlier management:
- Global capping: CapTransformer applies one threshold per domain, specified directly or from percentile-based criteria, including lower capping. Attributes such as number_capped and percent_capped, and the unicompare tool, summarize the impact.
- Local capping: LocalCapTransformer caps each composite based on the grades in its local neighborhood, so thresholds adapt to local grade variability.
- Maximum percentile: builds a local distribution from neighboring composites and caps grades above a user-defined percentile.
- Maximum mean impact: measures how much a composite changes the local mean and caps only composites above a maximum impact threshold.
- Transparent results: locs_info details the local capping at each sample location.
